Maybe one of the best spots in Lofoten to see the Northern Lights. The mountains around the Flakstad beach are open towards the north. Which his very good for seeing and taking pictures of the Aurora Borealis. Also the open sea, brings with some wind a weather change. That helps to spot the Northern Lights when it might be cloudy. Beside the beach you will find a parking, where you can also stay for the night. Maybe not the most attractive wild camp spot and in the summer it is very busy. But for chasing the Northern Lights perfect to stay overnight and to be on the beach when the Aurora Borealis is showing. In the summer time - their is also the camping Skargen not far from this place. The puplic toilets on the parking are only open in the summer. Flakstad beach is with Unstad a very good place for surfing. Depending on the wind you will find here a good swell and many locals surfing on the weekends (all year around). Every second year, the Surf Cup Lofoten Masters taking place here. From May 26 – July 17 you can also expernice the midnight sun here.

  • Nice spot, but you won't be alone there.

  • Nice place to stop with a great view of the ocean and an easy walk to the beach. Restrooms were closed in April. This would be a good spot to see the Northern lights on a clear day!

  • Very nice spot with clean and heated rest rooms. Many signs that show that camping or staying overnight is strictly forbidden.
