NORWAY'S CAMPER RENTAL SINCE 2014

In Case of Damage

Exploring Norway with one of our camper vans should stay in your memories as an amazing time and adventure. But of course unfortunate things can happen. No matter if it's your fault or somebody else causes damage - everybody involved just hopes that would have never happened. But it does. So, let's face it and handle it straight forward. Here is how we are dealing with damage documentation before your rental, damage assessment, and your self-risk fee.

1. Book the Right Insurance with Your Camper

BASIC Insurance - included

The Basic (CV or RV) insurance is our standard insurance and is included at no additional cost. This is the "Risk Takers" choice. With this insurance, you have a deductible (self-risk fee) of 20,000 NOK per incident for camper vans or 30,000 NOK for RVs. A deposit of 20,000 NOK (camper vans) or 30,000 NOK (RVs) will be charged when you pick up your vehicle at our rental station. In the event of damage or roadside assistance usage, this deposit will be used to cover the deductible.

PLUS Insurance - optional

The PLUS (CV or RV) insurance is optional and can be added to your booking. With this option, the deductible is reduced to 10,000 NOK per incident for camper vans or 15,000 NOK for RVs. If you select this insurance, we will charge a deposit of 10,000 NOK (camper vans) or 15,000 NOK (RVs) at the time of pickup. In the event of damage, this deposit will be used to cover the deductible.

MAX Insurance - optional

For the ultimate peace of mind, you can choose the MAX (CV or RV) insurance. With this option, the deductible is reduced to 2,000 NOK for camper vans or 5,000 NOK for RVs. If you choose MAX insurance, a deposit of 2,000 NOK (camper vans) or 5,000 NOK (RVs) will be charged at pickup.

Young Driver Insurance (Under 26) - mandatory for drivers under 26

For drivers under 26 years old, the Young Driver (CV or RV) insurance is mandatory. This option has a deductible of 20,000 NOK per incident for camper vans or 30,000 NOK for RVs. A deposit matching the deductible will be charged at the time of pickup.

Of course you are able to upgrade the type of insurance when you are picking up your camper van.

⚠️ IMPORTANT: Special Roof Damage Liability Caps

This section applies ONLY to damage to the roof area of your vehicle. All other vehicle damage is covered normally under your insurance tier with only your standard deductible applying.

Due to the extremely high cost of roof damage (often between 100,000 and 400,000 NOK), Arctic Campers limits your total financial responsibility for roof damage to the following maximum amounts:

Insurance Tier

Maximum Roof Damage Liability

MAX

1000,000 NOK

Gold (not available after 18/12/2025)

100,000 NOK

PLUS

150,000 NOK

Basic

200,000 NOK

Definition of roof area: The uppermost external structural surface of the vehicle, including roof racks, solar panels, skylights, awning systems, or any roof-mounted equipment.

Your responsibilities: In the event of roof damage, you must immediately take all necessary measures to protect the vehicle from water ingress or additional damage. Any costs from failure to do so, or subsequent damages related to the initial incident, will be your sole responsibility.

At vehicle pickup, you will receive a roof clearance pamphlet identifying known low-clearance areas in Tromsø. Please read it carefully.

2. Acknowledgment of Existing Damages

When you pick up the camper van, all damages are already documented. We also took pictures of the damages, so feel free to do so yourself. With signing the rental agreement you confirm the state and condition of your camper van before hire.

3. Returning the Camper Van

If you return the camper van in the agreed condition, we will release your deposit 10 working days after the return date.

In Case of Damage

If an insurance claim is required, you must complete a damage report. A damage report form can be found in the glove box of your camper. If it is missing, we will provide one upon your arrival.

You can also download the statement here: [European Accident Statement Form]

(The European Accident Statement Form is a standardized document used across Europe to report car accidents. It helps drivers exchange details, record accident circumstances, and simplify insurance claims. The form is not an admission of guilt but ensures all relevant information is documented for insurance processing.)

Failure to complete a damage report, as required by the insurance company, will result in us handling the process on your behalf. In this case, we will use your deposit to cover the damage costs.

Damage Assessment

Damage assessments will be conducted by either an insurance-certified automotive workshop or our in-house rental and repair service. The assessment location will be determined by us or the insurance company, prioritizing cost-effectiveness.

Once the assessment is complete, an invoice will be issued for the necessary repairs. These costs will be covered using your deposit but will not exceed the deductible amount specified in your insurance plan (except for roof damage, which follows the special caps listed above).

Please be aware that processing times in Norway can sometimes take longer than usual. We must wait to receive the final report from the insurance company, and in rare cases, we have experienced delays of up to six months, particularly when multiple parties are involved. Unfortunately, this is beyond our control, and we understand that it can be frustrating - we wish it were different.

Weather Resources (provided at vehicle handover):

Note for international drivers: Norwegian weather can change rapidly. Weather that seems moderate in your home country may be dangerous here. When in doubt, do not drive. Contact Arctic Campers for guidance.

⚠️ WIND DAMAGE TO DOORS - NOT COVERED BY INSURANCE

Since you'll be exploring wild Norway, we want to make you aware of a very important type of damage.

Wind damage to camper doors, fenders, or hinges is specifically excluded from insurance coverage. This means if wind catches and damages your door, you will be responsible for the full repair cost (typically around 30,000 NOK), regardless of your insurance tier.

How to Prevent Wind Damage:

  • Always hold the door firmly when opening in any wind conditions
  • Open doors slowly and maintain control at all times
  • Be extra cautious in coastal areas, mountain passes, and open terrain
  • Close doors immediately when entering or exiting
  • Check weather conditions before opening doors

During your camper trip, you may encounter strong winds. One of the most frequent issues we see is wind-damaged doors. This small precaution can save you from a significant unexpected cost.

By taking care with doors, you can avoid this common and costly damage! 🚐🌿
