About
The fishing village of Eggum lies on the ocean side of Vestvågøya, alone between the sea and the mountains. In summer people drive out here for the midnight sun over the open sea.
Facing the ocean is a rest stop shaped like an amphitheatre, with a car park and a service building with a kiosk and toilets, designed by Snøhetta and framed by stone-filled gabion walls. On the west side of the car park stands Hode, a head by the artist Markus Raetz from the art project Skulpturlandskap Nordland: depending on where you stand, it looks out to sea either the right way up or upside down.
Good to know: the toilets are open from early May to early October. Emptying the toilet of a camper or caravan is not allowed here.
