About

Ersfjordstranda lies in the inner part of the Ersfjord on the west coast of Senja, part of the Norwegian Scenic Route Senja. The fine white sand could belong to a beach much further south, but the tall, jagged peaks all around leave no doubt that you are in Northern Norway.

The beach is known for its triangular, gold-clad toilet building by Tupelo Arkitektur, locally called Gulldassen, the golden toilet. It has become a sight in its own right. In August 2026 a new service building by Nordic Office of Architecture opened by the beach, with three toilets, a kiosk and an outdoor shower.

Good to know: the toilets are open from early May to early October. Emptying the toilet of a camper or caravan is not allowed here. Tungeneset, with its walkway over the rocks, is only a few minutes' drive away.
