The Sámi Easter Festival is held every year at Easter in Guovdageaidnu/Kautokeino, a Sámi community where the Sámi language and culture are a natural part of everyday life. Kautokeino is Norway's largest municipality by area.
Easter has long traditions in Sápmi: people gathered before moving on with the reindeer, and weddings, christenings, confirmations and reindeer racing often took place at Easter. Today the programme includes outdoor activities, a market, duodji (Sámi handicraft), photo and art exhibitions, theatre, reindeer racing, snowmobile cross, fishing competitions, a church service and, of course, the Sámi Grand Prix and concerts with both traditional yoik and modern Sámi music.
