Sami Week – Tromsø
About
Sami Week is a yearly festival in Tromsø built around Sami trades, culture and sports, held in the same week as Sami National Day on 6 February. The Midnight Sun Marathon Foundation has arranged it since 2004.
Through the week there are lectures, debates, exhibitions, concerts, performances, Sami crafts and a Sami winter market. Sami National Day starts with a communal breakfast in the city, and the week ends with the Norwegian Championship in reindeer racing and lasso throwing, which brings thousands of spectators to the city centre to watch the country's fastest reindeer. Some activities need registration in advance.
