Sørvågen Waterfalls – Lofoten

Just outside the village of Sørvågen on Moskenesøya, at the start of the hiking route to Munkebu, the water comes down in several cascades close together, with the Lofoten mountains all around. The first waterfalls are near the start of the trail, so it is a short outing if you don't have time for a full-day hike.

The main path: park at the hikers' car park by Sørvågvatnet (paid; it fills up on sunny days) and follow the marked trail towards Munkebu. The path climbs beside the falls, so you see them as you go. Turn back whenever you like – continuing to the Munkebu hut is a long and demanding hike.

Optional viewpoints: some of the best views mean leaving the marked path onto bare rock, which is steep and slippery when wet. Only go where you feel safe, and not at all in snow or ice: this is a summer walk, roughly June to September.

Tips for campers: overnight stays in campers are not allowed at the hikers' car park. Å and the end of the E10 are just a few minutes' drive away.
