Lofoten is the most popular trip from our Tromsø station. There are two good ways to get there – many guests take one on the way out and the other on the way back.
From our station it is about 410 km to Svolvær and about 540 km to Å at the tip of Lofoten – without a single ferry. Drive E8 and E6 south past Nordkjosbotn to Bjerkvik near Narvik, then E10 west over the Lofast connection into Lofoten. To Svolvær that is about 7 hours of driving without stops.
The road is open all year. In winter there can be convoys on mountain stretches such as E6 Gratangsfjellet – check the road conditions before you set off.
• From our station to Brensholmen: about 50 km. The ferry Brensholmen – Botnhamn to Senja runs all year and takes about 45 minutes.
• Across Senja to Gryllefjord: about 80 km. Senja in our guide
• The ferry Gryllefjord – Andenes to Andøya runs only in summer – in 2026 from 13 May to 27 September – and takes about 1 hour 40 minutes. It can't be booked: in summer, come 2–3 hours early.
• From Andenes through Vesterålen to Svolvær: about 210 km. Andøya Scenic Route
If you finish in the south of Lofoten, the ferry Moskenes – Bodø (about 3,5 hours) takes you to the mainland; part of the space can be booked. More in Car ferries.
• Ferries are paid by number plate and charged after your rental.
• In Lofoten, empty the camper toilet only at dump stations – not in the toilets at rest areas.
